flying to Auckland

I finally touched down in Auckland after a very long flight (Düsseldorf, London, Singapore, Auckland). Fortunately the flight was not bad at all and I especially enjoyed flying an A 380, the masterpiece of european engineering and lots of subvention made possible with our taxes…

Sometimes flirting with the checkin clerk is very helpfull, take a look at my seat:

When we flew over Singapore I was just amazed by the amount of ships anchored in the roadstead. No wonder Singapore has got such a strong economy with so many boats waiting to get into the harbour (I wonder how it looked before this so called crisis?)

Anyhow now I am in Auckland waiting for the conference to start. Of course I try to do something useful except business as well by visiting Darren tomorrow and look at the Assassin. Can’t wait to see it.

By the way, the weather in Auckland is lousy:

How was the Assassin factory tour Felix? Get any good photos? I’ve got one on order and have been hanging out for shots of a clear finished boat and some of the foils and have been on to Darren and Holly about it for a few weeks but nothing’s been forthcoming yet :S $3000+ NZ bucks, no less than 4 other boats have been sold into australia with help from my advice, and not a photo to be shown for it!Hope you have a good time in Auckland – it’s called the city of sails for a good reason.By the way, how’s your boats been going? Haven’t had any news on the other boats out of the moulds for ages.

Hi Emo,I am going to meet Darren and Holly tomorrow and take a look at their production. I am also going to test sail it and repeat so on Saturdaz (got a conference on Thursday and Friday). Today I have been sailing a match race on an old America’s Cupper which was nice, too (see new post). As far as my other boats are concerned it is a long story I will post later (short version, started my own company, which exploded in growth, didn’t sail for 8 month (didn’t post during this time either. Boats look good, but I am now moving me and my company to Berlin and will get a new tool shop there and finish it all off.)take careFelix

Cheers Felix, sounds like you’re having one hell of a trip. The AC boat especially isn’t something the average joe sailor gets to have a sail on every day.Sounds like you’ve pulled off a pretty rare success with your business in these somewhat unsteady economic times!Hope you have a good time on the Assassin when you do take it for a run – I’ve heard from a few people now (Andrew Brown mostly) that it’s a very easy boat to sail very quickly and aside from a few minor details that needed refining on the prototype over the last couple of months (and I’d assume have been sorted out given that production has just kicked off into full swing) that it’s a very stiff, strong and light platform. You may even be inspired to do some mods to your boats after sailing it – the wand setup especially is supposedly very similar to what the mach2′s run with the kink in the wand and a fairly large planing paddle.
